ABOUT SHERWOOD CASTLE HOLIDAY FOREST
Sherwood Castle Holiday Forest is located within what is arguably the most famous forest in England.
It became a Royal hunting forest subject to strict laws to protect timber and game. The most famous outlaw to break these laws was of course Robin Hood. Around the Park you can spot props used in the film ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’.
We are committed to conserving this wonderful natural environment. For instance, over the last 15 years we have planted a new mixed woodland that now forms our dog walk.
The woodland comprises silver birch, oak, yew, pine and willow with rhododendron. The woods give shelter to an abundance of small animals and birds. You may spot buzzards, owls and bats, or muntjac deer, squirrels, rabbits, hedgehogs and badgers.
We are proud to have an ancient‘Yew Tree Walk’,and‘Oak Grove’ under which children can try out den building. Recently we have built a ‘Bird Feeding Hide’ and ‘Bug Hotel’ to encourage more wildlife.
During your stay we recommend you join one of our Instructor led Outdoor Activities: Feed the Animals at our Animal Corner, or a Nature Walk, or Den Building.
You may want to consider hiring binoculars to help spot the wildlife.
Don’t miss out on booking one of our ‘Country Style Pursuits: Archery, Rifle & Pistol Shooting or Crossbows. Pop in to the Leisure Centre for a Dip in the swimming pool or a game of Badminton or Tennis.
All of our lodges have been constructed from sustainable sources that are of solid Finnish pine that ‘blend in’ with the environment (not timber cloaked caravans). Most of the lodges are tucked in to the woodland but we have several around the lake.
When darkness falls each lodge feels secluded allowing you to commune with the natural environment!
We have a selection that are pet friendly, so you can bring your faithful friend with you on holiday, but please check when booking, as we cannot allow pets to go in pet free lodges.
“The location is absolutely fantastic! We loved the setting and the layout of the lodges. There was a big group of us and it was fantastic that we would comfortably fit into the lodges. Socialising was very easy!”
“The location was lovely, very close to lots of things to do. Only stayed for weekend but could of quite easily found enough to do for a week.”
